Why I made this:
As I try out new ideas and techniques, I like to give myself plenty of room to practice before scaling things up. In these paintings, I was testing my vinyl's ability to prevent color bleed as it wraps around tight corners, and I was also testing how much my bonding agent might squeeze out underneath the aluminum. 

Process-wise, I was weighing two options: Paint the aluminum first and then bond it to the wood panel, or bond the aluminum to the panel so that it can be painted in place. Ultimately, I went with the second option, and that's how my other paintings are made, but this was an interesting exploration none the less.

I'm happy with what I learned, and I'm also happy to offer these sketch/test pieces at a more relaxed, accessible price.

Living with this piece:
The matte clear coat feels really good under the fingers, but the texture of the paint still stands out just a little bit. If you've always wanted to touch the art in a museum, you're really going to love this feature of my work.
