Why I made this:
The paintings in my Color Door series are the big stages where my library of colors and patterns can come out to play. I've been painting in this style since 2019, mostly on bicycles, and I'm really enjoying translating those ideas into flatwork. In each composition, I try to achieve a balance of spontaneity and carefully curated equilibrium - using a wide range of visual stimuli but also very specifically placing each element. 

In this particular composition, a few large bubbles float into the space, interacting with each other in ways that I haven't explored in my previous work. I also usually divide a composition into many more pieces, sometimes as many as 70 or 80, but in this case, I decided to see what could happen if I devoted the space to larger sections of color and pattern.

For me, colors are a door, and I hope that your happiness can come skipping right through it.

Living with this piece:
The matte clear coat feels really good under the fingers, but the texture of the paint still stands out just a little bit. If you've always wanted to touch the art in a museum, you're really going to love this feature of my work.
