One of one; signed by Curtis Bullock
Why I made this:
I hate throwing things away, but as my cans get close to empty, the spray pattern can become a little bit uneven. Because so much of my work relies on crisp, clean lines, a can sputtering to its death mid-session could really mess up an important project. As a result, I've been squirreling away nearly dead cans for quite some time, not really sure of what I would be able to do with them.
I made this series because MiiR bottles are the surface that I sketch on, and this collection became the place where my almost empty cans could let out their last colors. Some these bottles in this series came to me directly from MiiR, others are overstock that I purchased from another retailer on closeout, and some of them got roped into this series because they were failed projects that needed to get sanded down and repainted. There are a bunch of Easter eggs under the paint if you get one and examine it closely.
The results were great for a first test, and now these experimental pieces are available for sale at a chill, accessible price.
Living with this piece:
The gloss clear coat feels really good under the fingers, but the texture of the paint still stands out just a little bit. If you've always wanted to touch the art in a museum, you're really going to love this feature of my work.
Please note, this was a first run, so some bottles are a little glossier than others.
