MiiR 20oz Wide Mouth Bottle - Nebula Style

Why I made this:
This is one of the first things I ever painted back in 2022. I started painting on water bottles that were more of a wine bottle shape because the little taper at the neck and the curving edge around the bottom were very helpful analogs for the especially challenging areas to paint on a bike. Plus! Those bottles came from Goodwill, so I could get a lot of them really easily and really cheap. 

When I wanted to work on a more consistent surface, I bought a case of MiiR bottles on eBay and got to work playing around with what I could do with a cleaner, simpler shape. The bottles I painted in this style were exploration of what I might be able to do with fades and gradients. When I paint in this way, I have a can of color in one hand, and a can of acetone in the other - spraying a little bit of each to keep the colors just slightly wet and running together. The golden arrows and little splatters on top are just fun decoration - obviously a far cry from the style I am most known for painting in today. 

I only had 20 bottles to work with at the time, so I only made a few pieces, but they were the first steps towards the scaling and playfulness and repetition that typify my work today.

Living with this piece:
The matte clear coat feels really good under the fingers, but the texture of the paint still stands out just a little bit. If you've always wanted to touch the art in a museum, you're really going to love this feature of my work.
