Signature Style; 12oz MiiR Flip Traveler bottle 1 of 1; signed by Curtis Bullock
Why I made this: This is one of the first things I ever painted in what I would call my signature style. I started painting on water bottles that were more of a wine bottle shape because the little taper at the neck and the curving edge around the bottom were very helpful analogs for the especially challenging areas to paint on a bike. Plus! Those bottles came from Goodwill, so I could get a lot of them really easily and really cheap.
When I got to start working with MiiR product, I wasn't sure which ones to choose at first, so they sent me a range of things to play with. This 12oz bottle is one of those early test pieces. The cousin to this one has been my daily driver for 'I'm leaving the house with coffee' for almost 4 years at this point. I love that thing.
I only had a few bottles to play with at the time, so I only made a few pieces, but they were the first steps towards the scaling and playfulness and repetition that typify my work today.
Living with this piece: The matte clear coat feels really good under the fingers, but the texture of the paint still stands out just a little bit. If you've always wanted to touch the art in a museum, you're really going to love this feature of my work.
