I call that pattern 'mixed sticks', and I actually discovered it by mistake while changing file formats in a piece of illustration software. I drew those shapes while at my favorite Portland bar, and then I digitized the page when I got home. They're both kind of bassy colors, so at first I didn't really consider using them together. As you can see in the pictures though, the green stays pretty consistent, but the purple changes a lot depending on the angle - sometimes it's clearly purple, and other times it feels almost black. The navy blue - celeste green combination is one that I am especially fond of, and the pattern (which I call 'mixed sticks') is also one that I love. I 'discovered' that pattern by mistake when a piece of illustration software did a very bad job tracing a field of scattered diamonds. Those bottles came from Goodwill, so I could get a lot of them really easily and really cheap. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhen I wanted to work on a more consistent surface, I bought a case of MiiR bottles on eBay and got to work playing around with what I could do with a cleaner, simpler shape. One of the ideas that came to mind at that time was that the bottle could look like a big, cartoon cigarette - especially with steam from a hot beverage coming out of it. \u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"color: rgb(64, 64, 64);\"\u003eThe 'Filter Up' option puts the orange at the top. When you drink from it, you'll look like you have a giant, cartoon cigarette in your hand. The 'Filter Down' option puts the red at the top. I started painting on water bottles that were more of a wine bottle shape because the little taper at the neck and the curving edge around the bottom were very helpful analogs for the especially challenging areas to paint on a bike. Plus! Those bottles came from Goodwill, so I could get a lot of them really easily and really cheap. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhen I got to start working with MiiR product, I wasn't sure which ones to choose at first, so they sent me a range of things to play with. This 12oz bottle is one of those early test pieces. The cousin to this one has been my daily driver for 'I'm leaving the house with coffee' for almost 4 years at this point.
